In an era defined by the pervasive influence of social media and the expansive realm of cyberspace, the proliferation of disinformation and fake news (D&FN) has emerged as a critical concern. The ramifications extend far beyond disinformation; they encompass the facilitation of crime-related activities, posing significant threats to societal well-being and security. Hence, it becomes imperative to devise effective strategies to mitigate digital risks and safeguard communities against the adverse impacts of D&FN.

The FERMI Community Resilience and Socioeconomic Watch, a component of the FERMI platform, epitomises a proactive approach towards bolstering the resilience of European Union communities. This initiative operates in close collaboration with Law Enforcement Agencies (LEAs) around Europe, leveraging methodologies such as Multi-Criteria Decision Analysis (MCDA) to develop robust decision models aimed at recommending tailored countermeasures to the end-users (LEAs).

By meticulously evaluating a diverse set of criteria and exploring alternative courses of action, the FERMI Community Resilience and Socioeconomic Watch endeavours are to construct an accurate, robust and comprehensive decision model. Through this process, it identifies and prioritises interventions for LEAs to address crimes that may have a high or extremely high impact within specific communities.

The efficacy of this approach lies in its ability to integrate various dimensions of the D&FN landscape, including socioeconomic factors, technological advancements, and behavioural profiles. The initiative lays the groundwork for long-term resilience building of a community, aiding law enforcement in tackling crime.

The FERMI Community Resilience and Socioeconomic Watch represents a formidable ally in the ongoing battle against digital threats. Through the prioritisation of threats actively using evidence-based decision-making and proactive intervention, this component offers support in building more resilient and prepared communities to fight disinformation and fake news. This initiative underscores the importance of collaborative efforts in empowering communities to combat disinformation and protect their collective interests. Furthermore, through such concerted actions we can forge a path towards a more secure future in the face of evolving digital challenges.
